With 3.4 million people without power after the crazy storm that hit us Friday night, and the freak heat wave the country is also experiencing, it’s been a little hard to pay attention to crowdsourcing lately.
I urge any of my readers who are still without power to report their outage, either by calling their power company or noting its location on an online map, provided on many companies’ websites.
Here are a few links for the areas most affected:
- Ohio – FirstEnergy, Duke Energy
- Virginia / West Virginia – Dominion Electric, Appalachian Power
- Maryland / DC – Pepco, BGE
Reporting outages will be crucial for people in residential areas. Many power companies are working on restoring power to hospitals and other important structures before they turn to neighborhoods, so it’s important for them to make themselves heard and ensure they don’t fall through the cracks.
And lastly, this goes without saying, but it’s especially important to report downed wires, tree branches in dangerous places, or telephone poles that have been knocked down. Safety first!
